Silly SCA related stuff

Thanks to the help I recieved over at Italian Renaissance Costuming on yahoo groups, I managed to find out where a painting I was looking for was located and that I was NOT seeing things. :-)

The painting is this one by Lavinia Fontana:

It's housed at Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna but the museum webpage doesn't have a big picture of it. I really want a zoom up of the dog. Not just because it's terribly cute and looks like Miss Ginise, but, with confirmation from [livejournal.com profile] florentinescot, because the dog is wearing earrings. Yes, the dog is blinged out.

I remembered this painting from ages ago and had trouble finding it again because all I could remember was giggling over the dog have better jewlery than everyone around her. (Didn't give me much to go on. I remembered the table, the type of dog, and that everyone was in 16th c clothing but I saw this about oh...15 years or so ago?) So, yeap, I found it again. :-) Now just to get a decent picture of the pup and add it to the collection of "Dressing your pup up is period, see?". :D

It's featured in a book about Lavinia Fontana as well, I think it was this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Lavinia-Fontana-Painter-Patrons-Sixteenth-century/dp/0300099134/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227137244&sr=8-1

If your local library carries it, it has many rare (or almost rare, anyway) paintings attributed to Lavinia Fontana, plus decent scans which makes it easier to view her art.

I hope you find what you're looking for. Great discovery!

[livejournal.com profile] florentinescot told me about that book but I think the only local library that might have a copy is the university. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it though.

Thanks!
