Grr...

So, I figured I'd try and make up a pretty formal dress that would fit my Mom. ....I cut it out of this lovely silk velvet and...it's terrible. I can salvage the skirt and make it into a fairy styled Italian Renn, which will look lovely and be great for faire, but the way it came out is just terrible.

I don't know why but to me working with verlevt is always somewhat of a gamble. if the fabric (as it is often) is just a tiny bit to stiff, it is tough to get the seams just right, plus you loose so much substance when you cut it. if it is a little too loose it sometimes looks like it is just *hanging in there. and even if the fabric is just right there is still so much that can go wrong. ( which is why I stay clear of it for most of teh time) HUGS, so what are you doing for your mum now?

The problems are many. Some of it is that my Mom is that much shorter than me that it makes it difficult to size her properly. The velvet was also a bit stretchy so that made it interesting to cut.

I looked at it this morning and it will be easy to salvage for a fantasy style Italian Renn overdress but it's not going to work for an evening gown.
