New to me painting

Has anyone seen this painting before? According to the link it is from the mid 16th C France - as the hair and makeup suggest- but I haven't seen this particular style before.

Thanks! I thought I had seen the style before but I couldn't recall where. I just haven't seen the painting before. Very interesting!

I know we discussed this painting a month or two ago on the FB group Elizabethan Costume. Very different style, and no clear consensus on why the style.
