Partlet Question and Poll

The partlet edging at the neckline is clearly gold but I'm not sure about the edging along side the blue ribbons. It looks like that might be silver. Thinking back to when I saw it 3 years ago, I think it was silver but I'm really not sure. Anyone else think it's silver? Or is it just the way the light is reflecting off of gold? Any other ideas?

[Poll #1188760]

Either way, I'm sewing the blue ribbon down on the edges using either gold or silver thread to get the edging look. :-)

I'd love to say it's gold but I've seen too many places where they mixed gold and silver. I'd go with silver personally

Silver would actually be better in my cause because I have some real silver thread..one spool that would look really neat on this partlet. However, if it's gold, I want to stick to the original as much as possible.

Where is the painting located? I'm pretty sure I've seen that painting in person but not sure if it was during a touring exhibit. There is also another painting that has a very similar partlet and I KNOW I've seen that one. Perhaps you could contact the museum that has the painting and ask?

That's the problem. I've been trying to find out and all anyone says is that it's "Eleanor/a de/i/of Toledo" by unknown person. This one was on tour up to the Philly Museum of Art back in the winter of '04/'05. I saw it back then. I'll keep looking though...

EDIT: I found this page which shows both and...it's doesn't help much. It looks a little bit more like it might be silver in the "darker" painting but it's still hard to tell.

Yep that was the other potrait I was thinking of - I have at least that one in the catalog from that Museum of Women in the Arts exhibit.
