So what did your first SCA/Civil War/Renn Fest/ ect outfit look like? Not a costume/garb/outfit that someone told "wear this" but the first one you put together yourself.
I still have mine. My very first Renn outfit (mid 90's. I can't remember the exact date. I want to say 95, but I'm not sure) was a lovely indian cotton broomstick skirt, a blue crinkle "chemise" top (yeap, with elastic!), and a white brocade bodice that laced up the front...and zipped up the back. I still have it lying around. The skirt is still good for work. :-) My brain just can't justify selling a piece of garb, no matter how horrible (elastic? in the sleeves?) that cost me $45 back when that was a couple of months + allowance. I've considered just taking apart the bodice and re building it as a corset. However, again, my brain doesn't want to destroy one of the few articles of clothing I have left from Georgetown Cotton (remember them!?!).
...Georgetown cotton is why, every so often, you'll see blue and white "arabian" style pants beneath my dresses...with a lovely sun and moon star print!

I started making the dress and Dottie told me to look up the SCA since they had been helpful in putting together stuff for the wedding. I called Hana who was the Seneschal of Storvik at the time and ended up going to my first event - Post Pennsic Revel. Then I went down for the wedding (Labor Day weekend) and I went to my second event on that Sunday at Kings Mountain.
I probably still have all of those pieces somewhere in storage but as I recall the dress was looking pretty shabby the last time I saw it.

was the very first thing that I ever wore. It was an old prom dress that I added the fake-fur neck to.
This, OTOH, was the first thing that I ever made.

That's me on the right. I gotta figure out how to scan those old pictures so that the crappy paper texture doesn't show up. :-( Found the picture in a book. Didn't have a clue. It eventually had tudor-ish sleeves on it.

im the one on the right and that is my family we had a periodish event for my moms 50'th birthday. Other than the rented tudours that a freind of my got to impress the girl he was courting and soon to be engaged to ( yes it was a courtship and not dating I grew up in a very old fashioned church ) ours were the best outfits there.
