Sewing Update

I have basically wasted two entire days. The green dress looks terrible. I'm going to just tear is apart, maybe salvage the skirt for the silk, and throw it away.

The front. The left side (with the trim) is sewn to the point you get a good idea of what it really looks like. Everything about it is just wonky. I need to throw it out and start again. I'm doing a fitted back this time because I know those well. I can do that. This just looks terrible.

The back of it after I redid the pleats and everything. It still doesn't look right.

:( Nothing worse than almost finishing something and finding out it doesn't work. I bet it wouldn't look so bad if it was one you- dummies never look as good as a real person. Is it really not salvagable? The green is so pretty and I really like the way the trim looks!

The way it was, it just wasn't salvagable. The problems were too numerous. It fit completely wrong -it's hard to tell from the photos- but the waist was about four inches too big even when I pinned it shut. The back looked wrong and I had no idea how to fix it.

I ended up salvaging the skirt and the back, recut the back, and making it into a English gown instead. It looks much better.

The green is some of the 30 or so yards of silk I bought from Fabric.com when they had it on sale for $1.95 a yard a few months back.

Really? Well, if you ever want to get rid of some of it, I'd be an enthusiastic buyer!

Excited to see the remake!
