Pictures of the Doublet

The doublet on the dress form. The color is a little bit lighter than that but you can see shape of the doublet better on the dress form.

Not the most flattering picture but you get an idea of how it's supposed to look. I do need to take it in on the sides but other than that it's done.

It's orangey red wool (think 1976. Yeah, that color. What can I say? It came with a pretty purple piece of wool that I want for my next big project and umm...well, the color is period.). I made a pair of viking style pants out of the wool as well to go with my beaded tunic top (after this past Pennsic, I think everyone knows why pants and tunic tops are a good idea). I originally wanted to make a jacket and a surcote but I messed up on the surcote measurements and just did the pants and the doublet instead. Still, getting two projects out of three yards of wool isn't bad.

I might add more frogs later on to the doublet since that would look really nice. I might also add some cording to the tabs just to spice them up a bit. All and all, for a curved front, free hand project like this, it doesn't look too shabby. I based it on the Women's doublet in Patterns of Fashion. The biggest difference between mine and the one in the book is that I added tabs rather than a peplum. I also used cable tie boning for the inner corset structure rather than reeds for obvious reasons. I lined the doublet with the calico I mentioned earlier. No one will see it and it works for what I needed (a thin cloth that wouldn't be too obvious unlike the bright blue cloth I have lying around. White and black calico doesn't catch the eye nearly as much).

so, yeah, this is what I was going to wear today with a black/navy blue wool skirt and a bumroll but it looks like it's going to be a TV and cell phone day today. ::sighs::

Thanks. Hopefully I'll get to wear it for Halloween at least!

Yes. Are you going to the Blackspear Halloween thing?
