The first picture of the blue gown is the one I fell in love with. I've found a few other examples of this cut, but not quiet this detailed. It looks like it has a built in bra, essetially, with an attached skirt. There are two triangles for the bust (the bra like part) and the skirt is attached at the bottom of them with the open front. The green one is of the same model in what looks to be the same cut. I'm using the green example to cut the back od the dress. It's hard to tell, but it looks like the back of the gown is more flowing that the front....which was pretty common back then. The side split has caused a bit of controversy in the past, but I've found at least five examples of it so I'm pretty sure it wasn't just allegorical. I'm not sure what to do about the underskirt yet. I might just wear one I already have for the time being. One thing I've noticed about all gowns from this time period, even little girls, is that the underside of the dress is made of a contrasting color. I've decided to use red linen against the blue linen for a very striking but neat look. It will also go with the sleeves. :-) I might get the dress done today. But first, I need to go to sleep! It's getting close to 8:30 and I'm still up! For those that don't know, I work from 10 pm to 6 am at night. 8:30 is way past my bedtime! |
