On the laptop!
Feb. 13th, 2008 06:18 pmI have kidnapped the laptop! hahahaha!
Okay, so today's theme song was "Oh the wind and the rain" which is a beautiful old Irish song for those that don't know it. It's one of those "bonny swan" songs. Anyway....
Today was a lot of fun if it was a bit slow. We woke up at 7:30 am (6:30 EST) and got ready to go Horseback riding! Woohoo! I've ridden both English and Western but I tend to favor the Western style so it took me a bit to remember the English style of riding (they don't have a horn on the saddle so you really can't grip anything). I had a lovely old grey horse that only wanted to eat. Mom didn't want to go on the horseback ride at first but once we got into the sugar cane fields and up into the rainforest, she loved it.
The rainforest was gorgeous. About half way up the trail we stopped, got off the horses, and went on a mini hike. I do have pictures (and even video) of the waterfalls and trees. Dad go on a swing at one of the banyan trees and I have video of it. I only had my keds on so I didn't want to climb up the rocks to go on the swing.
On the way back down, both hiking and on the horse, it rained. Who woulda thunk it? Rain in a rainforest! :-p While going back through the sugar cane, we went through a burnt field that had been growing pot. Apparently, the cops burned the area a month or so back.
After coming back to the hotel, we changed (wet jeans are not fun) and went back out to lunch with the group of other DC area residents that are down here. We had lunch at the little outside bar downstairs. It was okay but it's windy! I mean really windy! The napkins and menus were going everywhere. I think a few made it to the pool.
Then we went out shopping. Since the cruise ships were in, all the stores were open. I bought a beautiful black lace parasol. It looks like it has black linen "patches" with all the lace. I might temporarily add some red roses to it for the NC Renn Fest in late March/early April...or Pennsic...hmmmm...
Most of the stores were touristy junk shops. The few that weren't were very over priced. Once you got away from the cruise ships, the store prices dropped pretty dramatically.
We came back to the hotel and went for a walk out on the beach. The wind must be going 25+ mph if not a lot more. There is no one else outside...it's too windy! Unless you walk right along the ocean edge all the sand gets in your eyes and that's not fun.
Will write more later!
