isabelladangelo: (Computer Geek)
So, a couple of days ago, I updated to Firefox 3.6.6 which isn't normally a big deal. I noticed almost immediately afterward that my mouse was sticking. It just wouldn't move or it would go ridiculously slow. I did the ctrl+alt+del thing and saw a program called "plugin-container.exe" in my task manager. I had no idea what the heck that was and immediately shut it down. My mouse worked fine after that for a while. When the computer sounded like I was running thirty different games and trying to type in Word at the same time, I reopened Task Manager to see the stupid program came back up.

Well, a few searches and I found out it's a firefox plug in for all versions 3.6.4 and above. It's HIGHLY annoying and eats up memory like you would not believe. The only way to really deal with it (besides retroing to 3.6.3) is to shut the stupid thing down permanently.

So, on the how to do that:

Open a new window/tab and type "about:config" and press Enter.
The screen will then say "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Just click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" to continue.

Type dom.ipc.plugins into the Filter textbox.

Double click or right click and choose Toggle on all true/false options (other than dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs) so that they are set to false.

Now, restart firefox and it will be all gone! yay! Once it's gone, it does seem to mess with the plug-ins a bit but it's far less annoying to have the program gone than it is to have some plug-ins look a bit off.

I think, based on all the other complaints, Mozilla is aware of the issue but I'm not sure what they are going to do about it, if anything, right now. It's just very aggravating!
