isabelladangelo: (Regency)

I posted it to my tumblr blog but I was curious if anyone has seen a (late) Regency era gown before with sleeves that are clearly a different material and color. I mean, the sleeves are pink but they are a very different shade of pink and I doubt the silk brocade faded all over by that much. It's a neat dress either way but I just can't remember a gown with sleeves that are totally different from the dress until much, much later when we get into the mid to late Victorian period.

No, really, I tore down a wall. Well, sort of. You see, my dining room use to look like this:

I think the lovely faux wood particle board stuff you see there was put up in 1996 or maybe a bit later. I really didn't like it and have wanted to change it for a while. Well, given the new living room, I thought the dining room should be next. I'm going to get a new china cabinet (hopefully) on Thursday and I'm repainting the wall to pink. I'm not sure which shade of pink yet, but pink.

This is what the wall looks like now that I ripped down the stupid faux wood. I sort of like the color underneath, even if it screams late 80s/early 90s. The "white" brick looking lines are actually a very pale pink so it's nice to know a previous owner thought pink was a great color for that wall too.

I'm painting the trim black to go with the pink.

And I'm making black and pink slipcovers for the dining room chairs since the set isn't mine; it's my brother's. He'd like it back some day, or so he tells me.

Okay, so the choices of what shade of pink to go with:

It's the House Beautiful pink issue this month that made me decide on pink. They have several awesome ideas and I'm not sure which pink to go with. "Checker Berry" is sort of strawberry milk meets tuscan color schemes. "Rose Fantasy" is exactly what it sounds like -a rather medium pink going towards dark pink that is very rosy. Then there is "Razzle Dazzle" and it's bright. Very bright -sort of a rasberry magenta bright. But it looks awesome with black accents and this will only be one wall so....

I'm not sure. I'm trying to think "What will I be okay with down the road" and all of them would be awesome.

I'm redoing the above gown...again. I accidentally messed up the front and made it about an inch too small. I've taken off the sleeves and the front of the bodice. I need to cut out a new bodice front and lining yet but that should get done tomorrow. After I sew that back together, I can work on the trim. It will be a spring green to match the hat (in the picture) I got in Williamsburg back in 2007. Everyone needs a dress to match their hat!
