The link is to an online documentary on the 2011 Egyptian Revolution's music. It's all about what was happening on the ground. What the sounds were in Tahrir square.

What started in Tunisia is still speading. Beyond the recent problems in Egypt right now (in which the good guys actually ousted the Islamists. Some of the people behind the current overthrow were the Coptic Pope and Noble Peace Laureate Mohamed ElBaradei; the military sided with them), it's now spreading to places like Turkey. Although I know our less than stellar yellow journalist stations have yet to cover anything on Turkey - what started out as a protest against plans to build a mall on a park (No, seriously) has now turned into a still peaceful call for revolution on it's own.

This will spread to Greece and there is already signs it has. It won't be long until the entire former Roman world is swept up in revolution fever. Not with the unemployment levels in Spain and Portugal being so ridiculously high. Currently, they've been hovering between 25 to 30% unemployment. It's worse on the 20 somethings. Almost none of them have a job. We know how bad it is here - despite what our press may tell us- I know not a single person reading this doesn't know someone who is out of work and looking for a job. Many people now have temp positions or are only able to work part time.

The impact of these protests on us is already great. Between the trade routes in Egypt and other goods we import every single day, we are already seeing prices go up on things like gas - again. When prices go up, people get angry. When people get angry, they protest. How long before this fever hits here?

BTW, the BBC and Al-Jazeera English's coverage on world events has been great. I would highly suggest watching either of them to figure out the real news. They've covered the airplane crash, the Canadian train explosion, the French train accident, and all the revolution stuff. Also, I bet no one even heard of the Canada Day bombing plot that was foiled, right? The two involved were inspired by the Boston Bombings. Just because they were stopped, thank God, doesn't make it any less important.

For the Historical Fortnight Eastern Influence, I made a new pair of Turkish pants and a new Turkish coat, as was worn in Italy in the 16th C. It's perfect for Pennsic!
