If anyone in the MD/VA/PA/WV area wants a ton of very fresh apples for canning or freezing, go to Butler's Orchard in Gaithersburg, MD. I wasn't sure how many apples there would be this late in the year but there were TONS. I easily picked two bags - as did Mom- from a grand total of three trees between the two of us. We could have picked a ton more - probably literally- but my freezer is only so big!

I took the picture above at the orchard. It was a lot of fun and the apples are very easy picking. It didn't look like there were many at first blush but all you need to do is look past the first couple of rows and at the branches - you'll find a lot of perfectly fine apples. I am making so much apple pie this upcoming winter and spring, it will be ridiculous. Maybe some apple muffins? Hmm...

In other news, here is my cape I bought at the thrift store a few weeks ago:

It's black velvet and has a faux fur edged hood. The two bottom buttons look very 1880's to me - the top one looks 1980's- so I'll probably change them out. However, other than the awkward pose (I was attempting to show the length and that it had hand holes...I ended up splicing two photos together), what do you think? Will it pass for 1863?
