I finally managed to have enough time today to sit down and sew. I also got kidnapped by Mom and went to the craft store (bad, very bad on my pocketbook!) and then got kidnapped by Dad and went to Best Buy (bad on his pocketbook!). Inbetween all the kidnappings, I managed to finish one client's gown and half way through the same client's outfit.

The gown is for her 14 year old daughter. I made the front of it out of a silver and blue brocade with peacock feathers as part of the design. The rest of the gown is an irredescent royal blue taffeta. It changes from royal blue to purple to green as you move. I simply love the fabric. The sleeves are blue chiffon. It's done in a kinda 13th/14th century style with a lot of leeway. I used one of the McCall patterns for it.

The son's outfit for the same clients is meant to look like Robin Hood. No matter how hard I try...I can't get those darn caps on the doublet to come out right! I've finally given up hope on it and I'm just going to hand sew some parts to hide the stiches. It will take a while but it should be worth it.

I need to start working on her 17 year old daughter's gown tomorrow. I bought some gorgeous sheer poly stuff with stars on it to make sleeves for her gown. The top is a silverly blue crushed velvet with a pale blue satin skirt. The pattern is actually pretty close to some 12th century gowns I've seen with the high bust and flowing skirts. It shouldn't take too long to put together.

As for renn fest...next weekend is black velvet weekend. I'll wear my Elizabethan gown for the first time and my old tudor gown that everyone loves again. I'll see which day is going to be the colder of the two and wear the tudor on the colder day.

beware --- they are raising the temps for the weekend.

The current threat is low 70s on Sat and Sun but I wouldn't be surprised if it goes up to the mid 70s.

I had grand plans to break out my velvets but I think that might have to wait until closing weekend.
