Well, I'm not going anywhere for a while.

I'm sick. I wanted to go to Challenge of the Heart tomorrow and sit around with Miss Ginsie while embroidering but that is so not going to happen.
Allow me to explain what I planned on doing this weekend. One of my best friends and I were going to go out, have fun, have her spend the night here, and then get up in the morning and go to Challenge of the Heart to sew and use Ginsie as a socializing tool. :-)
What ended up happening: I woke up with a sore throat. Now a sore throat in and of itself isn't a big deal. Sometimes I get them thanks to the lovely seasonal allergies. So I drank down some OJ and hoped it would go away soon. It didn't. It got worse and I knew I had *something* and not just allergies.
So I called in to training and told them I wouldn't be in and then crashed. Ginsie woke me up at 10 and I checked the messages on the phone. One of the instructors called back and left a message stating "You sound horrible! Get to a doctor now and call back." :-) I know I sounded atrocious this morning; I really don't sound much better right now. So I called and explained that I'm more scared of infecting other people (which I am) than anything else. She didn't mind at all that I was staying home but, given the way I sounded, I needed to get to a doctor.
I also called my friend who was supposed to come over and left her a message "Don't come unless you really want to be sick and give this to your husband." I then proceded to call up various doctors offices in the area. After three saying they don't do walk-ins, I pretty much gave up. Remember, I can barely talk as it is and I'm sick...I don't want to talk at all, let alone on the phone so I call mom.
Mom agrees with the plan I had thunk up (great English, huh?). I'm going to the ER near her house because a) they have my medical records and b) I need a doctor at this point. So I went to the ER and waited for a couple of hours (which is practically record time for them) before they look at me. They were actually very nice which is slightly shocking because I figured that I'd get some of the "why doens't she just go to her doc?" comments but instead I got the "Yeap, that's not right. We'll take a look at you asap." And I was second in line of walk ins. The only person in front of me was a 80 year old with chest pains.
They did take me back and the doc looked at my throat; "Yeap, that's red and swollen. Your ears hurt? Yeap, they are red too..you need some antibiotics." so now I have horsepills for meds that I need to take because I really am sick again.
So no SCA events for me. I hate being sick. Can I blame this on stupid Mercury like everyone else?

Date: 2007-06-23 05:41 pm (UTC)Another walk-in option is the Bowie Health Center. It's near Bowie Town Center. We use it for our clients at work occasionally. Not nearly as much waiting time as the area ERs.
And if you don't already know...AVOID PRINCE GEORGE'S HOSPTIAL CENTER'S ER!!! Well, unless you don't mind waiting...and waiting...and waiting...and waiting... And that's just to get to the triage nurse! Oy!
