For the past couple of weeks, I've noticed a trend that is really getting on my last nerve. I'll post a comment (not just here but to other blogs and forums as well) and, for whatever reason, I get totally and completely ignored. At first, I thought no one was seeing my comments and thats why the person who REPEATED THE INFORMATION I ALREADY GAVE was getting so much attention. However, it's been happening in training too. I say something at the begining of group discussion and then a good HALF HOUR later, someone repeats what I said. I've started to point this out in class and the person who repeats it just says "Oh yeah, I'm just clarifing" What the heck? It took you a bloody half hour to "clarify"? No one questioned or even acknowledged that I said anything to begin with and now you "clarify" and take the credit?
Like I said, it's been happening online too. The problem with online is that no one can tell my tone when I say "Isn't that what I wrote up there twenty posts ago?" and I know I'll start a flame war because, for whatever reason, we all turn into idiots online.

I don't ignore you..I do read your posts but sometimes I don't have anything valuable to contribute/comment. :-)

:-) I know you don't. I was just in a very umm..bitchy mood this morning after a couple more incidents of being ignored or overlooked. I'm much better now because today was the last day of the gov't trainign class I had to take. Woohoo!

That's the problem with being an original..

The rest of us are stuck copying you.

At least it's comforting to know that this happens to other folk! Sometimes I feel as if all I need to do to kill a thread is to comment on it!

On the other hand, I am always hearing "love what you wrote" at events, so I know that people are reading it. And I haven't had a death threat in a year, so the posts ren't making people too mad...

I know some people who have left LJ because there were tired of all the negativity and getting the "I don't like you"s. Luckily, I've escaped most of that and hope to keep gaining more friends through LJ. I might even drag a couple of people back...

Really? Didn't most people leave that behind in 8th grade? I've only seen one person I know do a flounce-o-rama, only to sneak back in later when she realized that no one noticed her missing. (She seems to be an incredibly abrasive, annoying person IRL, and she constantly wonders why she has no friends or connections to anyone...)

from what I understand, it was more of bringing real life issues and politics into LJ and turning them into even meanier, nastier issues. The people I know whom did leave decided that they just didn't need that much extra negativity in their lives. They'd rather be oblivious then actually see what was being said.
If you ever want to see 8th grade again, go to the Ebay message boards under Miscellaneous. It is totally 8th grade all over. The only differance is everyone is fatter and gets to hide behind multiple names for each of their personalities...

This wasn't LJ. On LJ, I haven't had to deal with--let alone experience--nearly as many hate posts as on mailing lists and, worst of all, Craigslist. Perversely, I stay on Craigslist just so I never think that the average person isn't bigoted, ignorant and malicious! Makes folk on LJ and most responsible lists look so huggable!

That is so frustrating! It's happened to me before too, and it's never fun.

It's not. The sad thing is this has been going on for weeks now. I'm use to it once in a while but really! This morning it was twice within a couple of hours which is what prompted the rant...

Oh I sooooooo hear you on this one. I call it being invisable. We are treated as if we are invisable.

The other part of this is that the squeeky wheels, the people who grand stand on their soap boxes [ and generally havn't got anything original or that helpful to say] get accolades. *shakes head*

Also part of it is that others are intimidated or threatened by anyone original, or with the strenght of their convictions. And any one who does better than them.

Hugs

That is very true. Maybe I should try being louder and more obnoxious? :-) I'm not sure how to do that online but in RL, maybe my hot pink argle tights will get people to at least look at me...
