I cut out the overdress for my Florentine (1480's..ish) gown. I've only been planning on this gown for two or three years now so I'm catching up. :-) The overgown is a grape-y purple with tannish vines all over it. The undergown is going to be a heavy weight tan jacquard.

I should have pictures up by tuesday if I'm lucky. Which I'm not lately so I'm going to say Thursday instead... I'm going to use it as part of the Storvik Then and Now A&S at Novice. The Florentine will be the "now" of course; but what should I use for the then "then"?

[Poll #1016175]

The blue isn't really all that bad. It actually passes if I wear my blue twill coat over it but the silver silk organza sleeves are attached and are now pink after an incident with the washing machine. It's the old Ever After Simplicity pattern. The pink skirt...well...I wore it to fairy fest so I think that [livejournal.com profile] feymaker at least knows what it looks like. I typically belt up the over gored side and you can't tell it's a total mess too much. I really have no idea how I sewed it like that to this day. It's just...heavy on one side. It's amusing to see lying out but the blue gown was really my first piece of "garb".

I've also gotten a lot of progress on all three of the various clients gowns and chemises. I can work on them all tomorrow and might be able to send 'em out Saturday. (Woohoo!)

And then there is the slow embroidery progress on the Helena of Snakenborg gown. I'll have that done before Pennsic 37. :-) The gown is easy...it's the darn shirt! I know how it's to me constructed, I can even do the ruff moderately quickly...but the embroidery....98 strawberries more to go!

Strangely enough, my gateway costume was also a blue acetate Italian gown. It didn't have a zipper, though. It had hooks and eyes on the sides.

::giggles:: Did it have darts too? I don't mind the fact it's acetate...I actually have another acetate Italian gown that I love. It's more the horrible hand sewing on the cuffs, the attached sleeves, the darts...and that zipper. I thought about "updating" it but I just don't have the heart to do it...

Just do the strawberries in the evening while you watch TV...you'll be amazed at how quickly it progresses when you make it part of your "routine". I giggled about the gores. To this day, I STILL mess up sleeves for fitted dresses. I cut them out right but then wind up sewing it in backwards (or inside out, or upside down)...and only the left one. It's bizarre how I manage it. I couldn't reproduce those mistakes on a bet, hahahah...but I make it EVERY time.

I did that a lot too. I finally started putting in color coded pins to show me right from left and inside from outside. It works...most of the time. I now only majorly screw up every third outfit. :-)
