I feel like being evil. I want to make all the other snarks faint at the sight of me. I want to hear people look at me in utter confusion. Yes, I think I might actually make my gown of purple and gold evilness.
This fabric, I'm sure, was left over from the 1960's. It's a lovely jacquard pattern out of unknown fabric content. It's that really old fake gold string that's super shiny (think 1960's) with lavender polyester-that-wants-to-be-wool interwoven. It's scary. I love it. I want to make a renaissance gown out of it.
I might make just a generic one (bodice with attached skirt, side lacing maybe?). I think I might have the horrendous gold out rather than the lavender because it's just that much scarier. ...Maybe I should go Italian with this one? 1530's? Oh...now that would be scary...

EDIT: I did a burn test. Honestly? I think the "gold" is acrylic and the Lavender is actually cotton/silk blend! It just makes it that much scarier.

Because. :-)

Every so often, I just need to do something anti-authentic because I can. That, and I'll still look better than 90% of people at the Renaissance faire. (No offense guys, I'm just on my ego roll today)

ftw!

:-) We all need a little evil costuming in our lives. My next evil project will be in a month for the day of wrong gown...

Oh, that's actually rather nice. Not nearly as scary as my 100% stone-cold acetate Tudor kirtle, though. I am crinkly synthetic horror!

I actually have a couple of acetate gowns. One was the first renn gown I ever made so there is no way I'm getting rid of that. The other was one I made this past November. It's actually not that bad and I've seen quite a few other people in the SCA wear gowns from the same/similar fabric. (Turns out a lady that runs a garb store bought a bunch of the same fabric from Joanns and made gowns out of it. So a fellow household member and I now have matching gowns...in acetate.)

This gown will be evil though. I'm thinking of making a lacy edged chemise to go with it.....

You GO with your evil self! Course, I think the fabric is lovely, but maybe that just shows how twisted I really am?
