The above is a close up of the blackwork I've been doing on the handkerchief. I just have to go back around now and fill in the "holes" which won't take nearly as long as setting up the pattern. It's on a linen base. It's based on a pattern I found in a sampler from the 1520's. The thread is silk. So, all and all, it is about as period as you can get!

In other news, the sewing room is now half way decent. Next room to tackle, the guest bedroom followed by the evil kitchen.

Thanks! It's not the best but it least it came out to something decent. I'll post more tomorrow of it and of Holiday Faire (the event I'm going to in Atlantia tomorrow).

Hope you're having fun at Holiday Faire. I just decided that I'm not going to go this year; too many issues. :-)

It was great to be able to chat with you about this project! Do you want some linen for the hem? I know you used black cotton, but I could bring some white linen and show you an alternate technique for finishing the hem (I can also demonstrate the starting/ending technique we were discussing). I am blown away that you used the right materials for this project right from the start (linen and silk). I wish I'd of had your docs when I was judging!! I made some assumptions during my initial examination of your work that changed after discussing this project with you. What's the next one you've got planned? Giggle

I posted more on it here:

Next, I'm going to try a chemise with some embroidery on it. The sleeves of it should be small enough to tuck away into the purse and work on it here at work since I won't be doing much during the "off" season.
