My first problem with the cape was simple. Four or Five billion years ago, Mom bought me some oh so wonderfully soft black brushed cotton for the cape. I couldn't find it. She's in Austrailia right now. So whereever the big black hole that Mom mysteriously pulls whatever you are looking for out of was, I couldn't ask. Finally, today she called and told me it's beneath the tableclothes in the laundry ironing basket in the back of her closet. I found it. It's all cut out and so pretty looking.
My second problem is a bit different. I bought 6 yards of super soft celestial flannel to be the lining of the cape. However, I forgot to factor in the need for additional yards due to the pattern all being horizontal. Basically, I think I might have to make the back inner lining upside down. Not that anyone will notice but it will be annoying. I'm still trying to see a way around that but I'm not sure if there is one.
I supposed I could fold the fabric in half and use the extras to add the necessary fullness; or basically cut the one pattern piece for the cape into two. One would be the necessary length of the piece and the other would be that back triangle of the piece for extra fullness.
So, either I get two upside down back lining pieces or I get a chopped up lining with everything going the correct direction. Any votes on this?
