I've decided what type of gown I'm going to do and what materials I'm going to use. I bought 21.4 yards of black velvet last year. All I can say is thank God for paypal because, thanks to them, I was able to print off the reciept to prove I only paid $40 for the entire roll of fabric. This means I paid about $1.87 a yard. I asked, and yes, I can use it since I have the reciept and proved my mathmatical abilities. :-)

I wanted something I'd actually wear so I started looking through Italian gowns. I found The portrait of Elizabetta Rota and just love those sleeves. Aren't they gorgeous? A discussion on what the heck are those sleeve warmer looking peach things can be held later. But, I'd like to have more than one portrait to show those "big sleeves" existed in Italy. That's when I found this super portrait done by Raphael of Giovanna D'Aragona.

I honestly believe that the second picture may be the inspiration for Marguerite's dress in Ever After. The style is very similar and the so are the colors. The cool thing about the portrait is it shows embroidery on the Chemise (something I really wanted to do) and it shows the lining of the sleeves.

Now, my plan. The main bulk of the gown will be the black velvet. I think I'll need a half yard for the bodice, about 3 yards (i'm doing panels) for the skirt, and another two yards for the sleeves. So that's 5 1/2 yards. A total of $10.28 if I'm doing my math right.

So I went out and bought some poly satin lining. Yes, I know...poly ick. But it's for a garb contest and it only need LOOK period not BE period. Anyways, I used my half off coupon and got 1 yard 30" by 60" for $3.75. I'm only using it on the sleeves. So far, we have a grand total of $14.03.

I might, just might, be able to dig up the reciept I have somewhere some buttons I bought at holiday faire. If not, I'll just buy some more or get AC Moore to give me a raincheck for their bag of buttons that I bought a while back and use the raincheck as proof that the buttons only cost $5 for the entire bag. Since there is about 50 + per a bag, that's 10 cents a button. The dress calls for 10 buttons max so that's another $1. We're up to $15.03...if I can get the proof about the bag. If not, the buttons at holiday faire were $1 for six so we're up to $15.69. Either way, it's not bad.

The chemise is going to be muslin. If I try really hard, I might be able to dig through all my fabric and find some crinkle cotton that will probably still ahve the wally world tag of $1 a yard. If not, I have my muslin bolt of $1. I think it still says 99 cents a yard on the side of the bolt, which, hopefull, will be good enough. I'll print off the price for the muslin off of Joann's website which shows it as being 99 cents. I shouldn't need more than 6 yards, if that much, for the chemise. So, a grand total of $21.03 or $21.69; depending.

Hmm...maybe I should do the hat too and add some pearls? That would bring it up to umm.. .5 yards is .935 cents plus a bag of freshwater pearls is $2...so.. a max of $24.63!
