Slight Bellatrix update
Aug. 21st, 2008 08:24 pmI actually got the fabric for the outfit today. Yes, I'm cutting it short but I don't think this is an exceptional hard outfit the way I want to do it. The last waist cincher I made took me a couple of hours. This one might take a bit more with the machine embroidery but I doubt it will be super hard. (Yeah, watch, that little old Irish man named Murphy is gonna have fun with this now, and write up his laws again...)
I decided when I thought about doing the project that I wasn't going to do it exactly like the movie outfit. One of the reasons is simply I do not look good in pure black. I need accent colors. I look far better in reds/pinks/purples than any other colors. I learned this back in High School. It just feels wrong to me anymore to not have at least some red/pink/purple in an outfit. So, rather than black and silver, I went with black and purple.
I'm going to have a shiny purple cotton underlayer (ie lining) with strips of black netting w/purple sequins randomly placed under the black cotton voile I got today. I'm just doing the waist cincher out of black pleather. Yes, I know that is a costuming sin but it's easier to fake stitched together patches than it is to really do. And embroidering on leather with a machine? No thanks.
So, I'm going with the same lines and a slightly different color scheme to get my Bellatrix outfit. I need to find a good Death Eater's mask or make my own too by Labor Day....hmm....
