The official back from Pennsic Post
Aug. 9th, 2014 09:01 pmYou know you are back from Pennsic when:
Things that survived and didn't survive Pennsic:
The wash stand was a huge bust. It sort of worked but one of the arms broke within the first hour on site so I threw it out at the end of Pennsic. I didn't use it much - it would be better for larger encampments.
The canopy reading room was a bust but that was more because of the rain than anything else. I think a market style day shade would be awesome for next year.
The shower tent was a huge win despite being a hang out for daddy longlegs. It was plenty of room for a shower and changing tent - plus others started to copy the hanging from a limb placement of it despite their shower tents not being designed that way. (It was pretty funny to see one of the camo shower tents hanging from a tree like that...)
The solar panel and battery back up were another HUGE win. I loved them. I still love them. The battery back up survived a sudden downpour. I thought it was dead until it dried out after a day. It worked fine after that. No running to and from the car to charge up my phones or my kindle! I just plugged the phones in at night and plugged the battery pack into the solar panel during the day. It worked beautifully.
Of course, the trailer itself was a huge win. The water worked (running water!!!!), it was dry, comfortable, and no bugs. Well, one fly got in but he eventually escaped. I didn't have to deal with wet canvas on pack out or falling tent poles.
The folding chairs and cushions were a nice win as well. They were comfortable and I'll use them again next year.
The firepit was another win. I can honestly say this is the perfect Pennsic firepit. It's lightweight, small but a useable size, and above ground. I had a couple of fires in it, cooked over it, and didn't have a problem at all.
- You turn to the fridge to grab water rather than the faucet because you don't want the "rusty" water to cook the rice in. (The Pennsic water is well known for it's iron content. It's not the least bit harmful, just...orange. I brushed my teeth with it and it's fine. However, you don't typically cook with it because of the massive amount of iron in it. You tend to use bottled water. But yeah, I reached for the "bottled" water last night before I remembered I was back in the 21st century...)
- You have to remember which key and which way to turn the key to lock the front door to your own home. (The Pennsic house locks to the left. My real house locks to the right. It's hard to remember!)
- You are amazed that toilet paper comes in a 2 ply!
