Well, first, I did cut out my gothic fitted gown last night. It's going to be out of really pretty purple linen and the light blue linen that I tried to make white. It does look white...in areas...which is why it's now lining for the gown. I'm doing the curved front bodice method. I just used the same pattern I used for my doublet and lengthened it for a dress.

A lot of interesting responses over at [livejournal.com profile] sca in regards to my dog post. First, this trend of no dogs does seem to be unique to Atlantia alone (I might start going up to PA and over to DE where, according the to responses, they still allow pups!). Second, the no dogs rule looks to be an immediate reaction and not a thought out one. Immediate reactions are never, ever the best or the brightest...ever.

I'm currently thinking of posting over to the Merry Rose the idea of having "dog marshals" rather than bans. Yes, a good part of this is simply because I want to bring Miss Ginsie, darn it! but the larger picture (and the one that worries me) is the idea of blanket bans. As one person pointed out over in [livejournal.com profile] sca, you don't ban all men just because a few can't hold their liquor. You also don't ban the intoxicating agent. You just kick out the person who can't behave.
Any thoughts on posting this to the MR? Or in general?

For what it's worth...I much prefer handling things on a situational basis rather than adding more legislation. If a member of the SCA is creating a unpleasant environment at an event, they can: a) be relocated to where they won't be a nuisance, or b) be asked to leave & offered a full refund for the event. If they are creating a danger, sadly they really only have option "b" left.

Unfortunately, my method involves actually speaking with the people involved, which is sometimes difficult. Making anonymous rules is the easy way out. A person doesn't have to tell someone "I don't like that"...they can hide behind the chickensh*t banality of "the rules say..." and avoid a possible confrontation. Sad to say, but people sometimes choose the easy way out just so they can avoid being "the bad guy". Of course...I'm the "evil Baroness" so what do _I_ know, grin!

That's pretty much the idea behind the dog marshals; so there is someone that will tell people to "stop that yapping" and enforce civilized behavior. If the person refuses to stop their dog's behavior, then the person is the one with the problem and should be told to leave. Dogs that act in a dangerous way shouldn't be brought to an event to begin with. It shows irresponsibility on the part of the owner and the owner should be punished for their lack of judgement. If someone/thing is being annoying to other people, then sometimes you have to hit them over the head with the nice 2 x 4 clue bat, ya know? And if they get upset because you are pointing out that they can't behave like a civilized person, then do we really want them around the event?
Anyway, I'd be happy to be a dog marshal at any northern events. Ginsie would be deputy of course. :-)
