It was so much fun! We got there early which was a very good thing. We ended up getting seats right up front that way in the green section. The green section is where the entrance for all the Knights is and right next to the balcony for the Royalty. Talk about up close and personal!

Dad bought me a really cute red "goblet". I wore the silly paper crown because it's not like I'll really ever get another chance to wear a pointed hat :-). My Mom and Dad were looking around at everything (as was I). Dad wants me to make some tabards for my cousins who are 11 and 3 (I think). I'll just make some nice generic Atlantia ones...that would look interesting in Trimaris!
Mom and Dad want a suit of armor for the beach house. Umm yeah, my influence much? I told Mom I could probably find her a much better suit (Norman helm with 15th c Spanish breastplate?!?) for a lot cheaper through the SCA. If anyone can recommend someone, please let me know.
We got in and got to sit right on the end. There were a ton of middle schools present. I mean a ton. The row behind us was nothing but 8th graders. I'm guessing 8th grade final field trips? They were loud but well behaved otherwise so I didn't care.
As Mom pointed out many times, the Green Knight was cute. Dad said he reminded him of that "Aussie actor that just died" (Heath Ledger for anyone who doesn't speak Dad). He did too! You remember what Heath Ledger looked like in 10 things I hate about you? That was the Green Knight. Super cute.
So we cheered for him even though he turned out to be the bad guy. All the knights threw flowers into their sections. The Green Knight threw me a beautiful red carnation. :-) It was really funny because Mom kept pointing out how he threw pink or white ones to everyone else but I got the red one.
Dad. Poor Dad. We had no idea what was going on. He took one bite of the chicken and he was done. He kept getting up and leaving, telling Mom and me to stay and watch the show. Like I said earlier, he threw up on the way home. He didn't get to really eat anything. Well, turns out it's because the men in my family have this issue with chewing their food...they don't do it.
Mom took Dad to the hospital after he was throwing up all night. They had to do (minor) surgery on him because it turns out the chicken was lodged in his esophagus. It was a very big piece of chicken. The doctor does believe allergies played a big part and caused the esophagus to swell up and not let the chicken pass but there is also the issue of Dad just eating to big a piece and not chewing his food. So, moral of this stories is to chew your food! With your mouth closed, please.
Anyway, I did have fun. I got to wear a pointy hat and not break da rules. I got a pretty flower. I got to eat a yummy feast. I'm altogether please. :-) Even if the princess's dress looked like something out of Hot Topic bleached and with an old Simplicity pattern surcoat. (Not that that was a bad pattern at all...just that the two did not mesh. Especially when the Knights all look like 13th/14th c ish and she's dressed up in panne velvet.) Okay, enough snark for now.
I really did like the use of the heraldic flags in the shapes of shields as a jousting line. I think I might mention the use to my household for Pennsic. It would look neat to make "flag" round shields for our entrance...or maybe just a patchwork of our shields for the sail of our "ship"....hmm....
