Cut out the bodice, skirt, and sleeves from the pink silk. I decided to go with a sleeve pattern similar to the sleeves of the Woman's Kirtle in Patterns of Fashion (pg 110). I cut it into the four panels. I'll cut the lining, cotton/linen, tomorrow. (BTW, all linens and blends are on sale at Joanns right now. I got some lovely heavier weight Linen/Rayon in a pretty pink for a waistcoat for the Priscella the Pretty Pirate outfit. It was $4 a yard.)

I have just enough fabric left to do some bias tape for the sides and the neckline. I'm using regular old duck cloth for the inner lining.

In other news, I took apart the watermarked silk 1500's Italian. I ironed the skirt to get a better idea of how bad the watermarks were...and they are bad. Luckily, I think I can cut the skirt in such a way no one will see the watermarks. The fabric is just too pretty to through away!

I've never used Linen/ Rayon blend. Is it that much hotter then 100% Linen? Also what would happen to the water marked silk if you put it completely in water? Would it even out the color or just mess it up completely?

Since the stuff I got is 65% linen/35% rayon, it's not that bad. For the most part, you really can't tell that much of a difference. It's more like the difference between a cotton and a linen of the same weight so it doesn't really affect you as say 100% rayon does.

I tried soaking it in water and washing it in the washing machine and nothing. It's just ruined and there's no helping it. However, like I said, I can cut the skirt so no one can really see the watermarks on the silk unless I take the coat off. Basically, I can cut the skirt so the watermarks are at the top of the sleeve and hidden by my arms since this will be used for lining anyway. :-)

I received my AoA wearing this gown so I really don't want to just throw it away. The watermarks are all right below the knee. Hopefully, that's far enough down on the skirt to cut the sleeves in such a way no one will notice it. Unfortunately, the watermarks happen to be right near the widest point of the skirt.
