Honestly, If I hadn't already planned on going and carpooling with other people, I wouldn't go. There are just too many issues with the site and the people planning it not being logical that really bug me. And honestly, it's not just the dog issue.
It's the fact that, the site itself is billing this as a "Renaissance Festival". The SCA members are the "living history participants" (aka actors). Since when do the actors pay to be on the site and the site not charge the general public to be at the festival? If you come dressed in Rennie kindergoth outfits with your dog, you don't have to pay. But if you dare to be a card carrying SCA member in (near) perfect 14th c dresses, not only can you not bring your dog, but you MUST pay $8 to get on the bloody site! Ummm, huh?
So the people who are here to gawk at the actors (SCA members) don't have to pay because it's a public park and anyone is welcome but since we are renting the space and not blocking it off and billing it as a "demo" we do have to pay? Logic, please! Logic!
Why not ask the site, that if they really want us there, to ask us to come, set up some ropes, and have the general PUBLIC pay to get in and not us? If the minions in the SCA are really that terrified of cocker spaniels, then they can make sure NO ONE can bring their dog in by having the area roped off (ya know, rather than banning the paying group from bringing their dog?::sighs::). Oh, but wait, that would be LOGICAL...and so far, I've seen little of that lately....
Anyways, yes, I'm coming. I might sneak Ginsie in because that really is ridiculous. If the public is welcome, and public dogs are welcome, then why can't paying pet owners be welcome too?

You are right, that makes no sense, especially about the dog. Public park for dogs means no one has the legal right to refuse a dog, since it is public. If there are leash laws, then they should be obeyed.

And wtf? SCA has to pay, but mundanes don't?????? If I was SCA, I would boycott by not attending, except as a "mundane", even a nicely dressed mundane or something.

Yeah, I've decided not to go now. The tipping point was that my Dad said he wanted to go to Potomac Celtic Festival and well, it's Father's Day weekend. I really was back and forth on it because Highland River is a nice event in terms of classes, fighting, and shopping but it's just not worth the hassle of only being able to stay for a couple of hours since I can't bring Ginsie and paying $8 for something that should be free, considering. I'd much rather go listen to great music, bring my dog, and hang out with my Mom & Dad on Father's Day weekend...plus still have even better shopping.

The funny thing is, it's being called a Renaissance Festival by the city park so there will be people dressed up coming by. The near by historic house is even saying it's free to come and watch the re-enactments and you only have to pay to tour the house. But if I'm an SCA member and not participating in the fighting, I still have to pay and the rennies don't? Huh?

If you don't want to go to Highland River, it's ok, unless I'm not the only carpooling person. Especially if we go to Celtic Festival. :-)

I guess the "rental" of the site...but since the site is still open to the public (and the public is being invited to come on by and watch the fighting and living history for free), I really have no idea. Honestly, last year, we had all sorts of people wandering through (even the list field) out for their walks. It's not in any way cut off from the rest of the field.
