Pictures and another Question
Jul. 4th, 2008 11:50 pmMom's early 16th C kirtle I based it on the kirtles seen in Henry VIII's Book of Hours. It's green linen with a brown linen blend lining. I didn't iron it prior to trying it on the Anne Boleyn model but I think you can see that the front looks okay.
The problem is in the back. There is a slight gap at the bottom of opening in the back. I'm guessing this might be due to the dress dummy itself and nothing else. However, I'm thinking of maybe adding a gore? Any other ideas? I had to take the stitching out at the bottom of the opening because the opening had to be bigger to fit over the dress dummy. :-)

Date: 2008-07-05 05:30 am (UTC)I would try it on your Mom and see how it fits her, because we all know that kirtles and squishy bodies work better than kirtles and stiff plastic dummies. If it doesn't fit her, or it still gaps a bit, then add a placket or a gore, and see how it goes from there.

Date: 2008-07-05 11:26 am (UTC)I'll just try it on Mom. I just hate having to wait on a project (Even if it's only two days) and like it to be close to perfect before she even gets here. The weird gap that forms when I hold the dress closed just bugs me and I want it to be fixed now, ya know?
