The style of dress I want to do for 12th night seems to be popular between 1480-1500. I want an attached upper sleeve with a detachable lower sleeve.

http://www.wga.hu/art/g/ghirland/domenico/6tornab/61tornab/2birth1.jpg -the gold overdress is clearly an over dress but has the upper sleeve/lower sleeve that I like.

http://www.wga.hu/art/g/ghirland/domenico/6tornab/62tornab/3birth1.jpg - The green dress also has the upper sleeve/ lower sleeve and this one at least looks like it's a dress and not an overdress

http://www.wga.hu/art/g/ghirland/domenico/6tornab/62tornab/3birth2.jpg - the coppery brown dress. She's partially hidden behind the other lady but you can make out the sleeve details.

http://www.wga.hu/art/g/ghirland/domenico/5sassett/frescoes/6resurr3.jpg - The blue dress. This has been a favorite of mine for a while. This is the style I want to do in terms of the body of the dress.

http://realmofvenus.renaissanceitaly.net/wardrobe/CarpaccioBetrothed2.jpg - Both of these dresses. This is actually what I'm thinking for the upper attached sleeve. See the decorated part of the upper sleeve?

http://realmofvenus.renaissanceitaly.net/wardrobe/LadyWithTrain.JPG - Luckly, [livejournal.com profile] realm_of_venus has this in black in white too. The lady in green next to the lady in the train looks to have the upper sleeve/lower sleeve thing going on.

I think those are more likely a half-length overgown sleeve over a full-length (sometimes two piece) undergown sleeve, actually.

They probably are. I just couldn't think of how to describe it earlier today. I probably should have said detachable undersleeve rather than lower sleeve.

Although, this one (http://realmofvenus.renaissanceitaly.net/wardrobe/Ceyx1.2.jpg), which is later than the rest by about 6 or 7 years, looks to have the separate pieces with a decorated (slash and puff) upper sleeve and a lower gauntlet like "sleeve".

::super big hugs::

Thank you! These are awesome! I'm in love with the gold dress, black and white underdress in this painting (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/operafantomet/renaissanceportraits/bologne/costa1504bol2.jpg). I might just do that style instead since I want to have a gold gown with black and white under sleeves/dress. Hmmm....
