Fabric.com and the 12th night dress

This is the fabric I'm using for the "short sleeved" 1490's Italian dress. I really like the shade of gold.

Fabric.com is having a sale on a lot of their (dupioni) silk fabric. I know some people have misgivings on using it in the SCA and other historical costuming but it is silk and there is some evidence that similar silks were used in the period so....

I rather love the stuff for myself. It's cheap. I'd prefer to use taffeta or silk satins but it's hard to find the colors I need and not pay $25 a yard for those. (Silk Satin I can sometimes find for cheap but taffeta? Nope.)

I'm with you on the silk dupioni thing. It's a wonderful fabric to work with, it looks great, it's natural fibre but still fairly cheap, and you can get it in basically any colour out there. Gotta love it!

It really is all about the color. Finding just that shade of [insert color here] in any silk is hard enough once you get beyond the modern popular colors. Dupioni is a popular enough fabric that there tends to be a huge range in color...not so much with the other silks except the sheers.

Ooohh I love that gold!!!

I'm a huge fan of dupioni myself, though I don't get to use it that often. For me, it's easier to sew, has a lovely sheen, and is a lot more cost effective that silk satin or silk taffeta (I did luck out once and got a decent weight, very pretty purple silk taffeta for $7/yrd. But that was only once It's in my icon, lol).

I was really lucky about a year ago and got some orange taffeta for $8 a yard. Your deal was better and I love that color. :-)

I just spent way too much $$ on silk. But I couldn't resist - the price was great, especially with the free shipping. :)

Now I just need to SEW all this fabric I have! ACK!

Ah, the fabric stash grow-ith. :-) It really is a great price and I only controlled my spending by thoughts of the fabric stores in LA (and the fact I have five boxes of fabric already!) I did get some of the smokey grey silk as well as the gold.
