Last year, I think it was back in oh Septemeber or so? I thought up doing an early period/11th c ish dress. Last week, I thought it would be a fun project to bring to work...which means sewing an early period gown without the help of a sewing machine. The underdress is red linen, and I finished it all up today.

Since I didn't have a sewing machine, I didn't have any other projects to distract me from hand sewing up the side of the gown that I had yet to finish, sew in the sleeve, and then hem the entire thing...oh, did I mention that with the massive T-storms the sat kept going out so I couldn't have even the TV to distract me much?

(BTW, if anyone wants to hear about a very intresting adventure involving my car and some massive flash floods down little river and arlington rd at 10 pm, feel free to ask!)

Now, I've never done an early period gown before. This one is a mostly linen/rayon mix because it was on sale at Joanne's back in April. I got the circlet at the VA renn faire a couple of weeks ago and Miss Ginsie wanted to know why I was sitting in *her* chair.

I am making an over tunic in the 11th c style. I just couldn't find any tan thread around the house to match the linen fabric I'm using for the overtunic. So I started on fixing up the wooden cot instead.

I managed to replace the straps on it that hold up the headboard so I have a headboard again. It looks a LOT better in that respect. For those that don't remember, this is the wooden cot I bought that I thought was in refurbished condition....only to find out the last time it had been fixed was back sometime before I was born...I think. So all the material needs to be replaced, badly. I was going to take the bed part out of it, but I need to get new nails to secure the canvas bed to the wooden frame again once I take it apart. The nails I got aren't the correct size. So to the hardware store...again...tomorrow.

After that, I decided to try my hand at knitting in the round again and maybe work on a sock....that lasted for a few minutes. I did start it and get a couple of rows in but the TV came back on. :-)

What a pretty dress! Simplicity works sometimes.

Wait until you see the overtunic. The entire outfit really looks neat together.
