4th of July!
Jul. 4th, 2010 10:38 pmMost of the day, I sat around and loved the idea that I don't have to go to work tomorrow. That translates to, I did nothing. Well, I went to mass and I tried to draft a pattern but I didn't like how it came out so I gave up and then tried to knit a bit but gave up on that...
That was my day until seven pm. I then got my strawberry shortcake chair (yes, it's for an adult. It's for up to 250 lbs and I've had it for years now), packed a bag with a jacket, a bottle of water, Ginsie's water bowl, and my sewing kit, and headed down to the park with Miss Ginsie. Now the park isn't that far away -maybe a mile and a half- but I drove to get as close as possible because I am not walking uphill with the dog and a chair and a bag. Just, no. And I was wearing a dress. So way no.
I found the perfect spot directly across from the staging area on the lake and in the shade when I got there. So, I set up the chair, tied Miss Ginsie to it, and was happily behind the stage where they had an awesome orchastra playing. The singing? Not so much. Thank goodness the lady only sang two songs because she murdered Star Spangled Banner. I think she also attempted to sing "America the Beautiful" but it was so bad, I tuned her out.
Originally, I had my own little area all to myself but, by 8:30, it was pretty darn crowded. Not that I minded, at all. Actually, the people behind me were awesome and loved Miss Ginsie so she was rewarded with lots of hugs and kisses from complete strangers. (Those of you that have met the pup already know -Ginsie is a total flirt and a social butterfly)
Well, the fireworks started at about 9:15 and I wasn't really prepared for Ginsie's reaction. She freaked out! But that lasted all of a minute. You see, like most dogs, Ginsie didn't like the big "boom" but, unlike most dogs, Ginsie *loved* the colors. I mean totally was enthralled by it. After a few skittish seconds -one of the ladies behind me gave her a hug and a kiss to help calm her- I held her to my side and she started to calm. Once Ginsie associated the "boom" with "oh! Pretties!", she calmed down completely -to the point another lady started laughing at how calm she was!
So, Ginsie's version of events:
Start of Fireworks: OMG! MOM!!!!! What was that?!?! How can you not hear that!?!? It was loud and it was scary! And it's going to eat us all!!! Run!!!!
Ten seconds later: Mom!!! Are you INSANE? You want to STAY near that big boom noise thing?!?
Two seconds after that: Fine. You are insane and...wait. Is that colors? Lots of 'em?
Ten seconds after that: Okay, so I guess we'll stay and...oh! Pretties!
Some of the photos came out a lot better than others. I'm still trying to learn this camera and I think I figured it out to a point. I didn't take a bunch of photos because a)Ginsie and b) the camera is now, officially, dead. I had just enough power to transfer the photos I took. I'm getting a new recharger this week. It's in the mail. Promise!
