A couple of things:

Interesting opinion piece on the Harry Potter theme park at Universal. Basically, the guy says he expected more magic and got...Orlando.
For the pink 18th c dress do-over -I'm now thinking a full front, in pink, but ripping all the trim I have off of it and using the marvelous aqua pleated velvet trim I got in NYC in April around the neckline and down the front closure. I think it would look a lot better.
I'm working on another 16th c dress right now. It's out of that rose red linen I got at Joann's. I'm going for a 1510-1520's Italian style with the tied front opening. The trim is going to be the way too many yards of green velvet I got years ago. (The tag said .25 cents and I thought it meant a yard. Turns out it meant the entire roll so I bought the three rolls I could find at the time.)

Date: 2010-07-07 04:04 pm (UTC)Also, there is not even a tiny amount of advertising in that section of the park. No Pepsi splashed everywhere. None of the drinks are branded. I honestly think they did an excellent job of trying to maintain the illusion while still being, you know, a theme park. In Florida. Plus it just opened - I'm sure they're still tweaking things.
I mean, even the gift shops aren't really crassly out there. You can really shop in the candy store and the joke shop - and the other gift shop (which was packed) had all kinds of props and detail in it.
Honestly, they did a beautiful job with what's there - down to the "sickles only" label on the fortune telling machine. Maybe this reviewer wasn't looking closely enough.
Could some things be better? Sure - but the thing just opened a week ago. The Magic Kingdom has been running for how long now?
Meh. :-)
