First: Thank you for your prayers! It worked; I didn't get a ticket. ;-)

I do have a sprained thumb according to the ER physician. I didn't get to the ER until 3:30 or so but it's just a sprain. This means I don't have to do dishes tomorrow according to the Doc. :-)

Now what happened: A cop turned around in the median strip of 295. Not a big deal and everyone was slowing down. I was too when the guy in front of me stopped. Just totally stopped. Well, I slammed on the breaks but my Escape doesn't stop on dime; unlike his lil Altima. I knew I was going to hit him but I thought it would be fender bender until I saw white. The airbags deployed and my left hand hurt but I was more shocked than anything. I could still see the car in front of me and he looked fine. He was already pulling over. I moved my truck too, realizing the odd metallic smoke smell was the airbags.

Once we were off 295, I called 911. i wasn't sure if I was hurt or not because I was too shocked by the accident. While on 911, one of the traffic crew saw us and he was extremely kind and talked to 911 for me. The other guy was clearly okay and no one really seemed to pay attention to him.

Fire, EMT, and police all came out. I went into the ambulance and they took my vitals. My blood pressure was low but that's pretty normal. I called AAA and the police had to leave due to another accident. The officer told me she wouldn't issue me a citation because she had to get to the other accident. She wasn't going to do more than a light citation anyway because the officer knew what happened. Very little can be done when your car won't stop as fast as someone elses.

After the tow truck dropped me off at the Auto Repair, I found out they don't repair airbags. Oh, fun. Luckily, they were nice as well and called someone who does. The other auto place said they can repair the truck since it's the bumper. airbags, and windshield -and that's it. Since the truck has 100,000 miles on it and the airbags deployed, my insurance wants to total it despite it being drivable. We'll see who wins.

I'm so glad you weren't seriously injured.

Insurance companies can be illogical.
