In other news; I found a decent front lacing Victorian corset via google's patent search. I *think* I can try and recreate it.....

This invention has relation to ladies' corsets, wherein stay-bows are used inside of those portions which cover the breasts, for the purpose of giving beauty of shape to said portions.

I am torn between being amused by the bust-improving corset and the language describing it and wondering how painful it would be to have a horizontal bone rubbing across the front of your breast all day.

You know, I really tried to make that sound not dirty, but I don't think there's a way to do that.

My guess is that it's similar to the feeling of a bra with seam right across the front of the cup assuming you are using a flexible piece of boning. I'm going to probably either go with cable ties or duct ties.... Not period but, eh, not like anyone will know. ;-)

Aren't they neat? I fell in love with the design when I saw an extant pair. The pattern I used was Butterick 3836. The only -slight- issue with it is that you need to add about an inch or two to the crouch seam. It fits beautifully around the waist and hips though. Overall, it's a ridiculously simple pattern.
