I cut out an Italian chemise from the linen/cotton I got yesterday. It's really amazing stuff and looks like it will go great for what I have planned. The problem is the linen thread I bought many years ago is junk. I started to sew up the chemise during the super bowl only to have the thread break. I was only sewing very basic running stitches, two at a time. I examined the thread more closely and noticed that it's not as good as I thought it was. This means I might have to switch to the silk thread I have, which is fine, but I'm not sure whether to throw the linen thread away or give it a second shot.

I did try to knit a mitten as well and I put the thumb gusset too close to the design on the mitten so it messed it up. I took it mostly apart and I'll start on it again tomorrow hopefully.

None of the craft projects went the way they were supposed to except my creative writing one. :-(

is the linen thread bad all through? or just the outer layer?
is it actually bad (is breaking/fraying/short segments) or is it damaged?
is it merely too thick or thin for the chemise?

what brand is it? if its one of mine you can get it replaced free of course but i need to know what the problem is....

It looks like the linen thread has bad spots that just will make it impossible to work with. It's not one of yours -it's some hand spun stuff I bought many years ago. Because it's hand spun, the width changes which probably is part of the problem. So, no, not one of yours. :-) The silk is but I know that's good stuff because I've used a lot of it before. Hence, why I'm switching from one to the other. I just really, really, don't like switching threads with different contents like that. It's a silly thing, I know, but if I start with a linen thread, I want to finish with a linen thread.

Oh! If you are going to be there, I do need at least five of the eternal silks, color 3260 (the bright blue). Could you bring that instead? It looks like it might be a big event now simply because of the Principality talk...

I got a roll of linen thread from Ireland out for my stays project and it kept snapping all the way through. Threw the whole lot out and went and bought Gutermann linen thread - it was perfect!

Hmmm...I'll have to check on Gutermann tomorrow and see if I can get some linen thread here. I know they have the silk thread at Joanns but I don't recall seeing linen. If they do, that would be great! Thanks for the tip!

Its quite a coarse thread but wonderful. Even the linen thread from WM Booth Draper broke under pressure - though I might have used one of their lighter weight threads.

Try waxing it, if you don't already, that strengthens linen thread

Good idea! I have enough wax around I probably should do that but I always forget. I'll try that and see how it works.
