isabelladangelo: (fabric colors)

A couple of years ago, I bought these two lovely pieces of embroidered batiste. They are white on white embroidery that looks like they were two different tablecloths at one point in time. Both are about 3 yards long by 45" wide and they are embroidered all the way around except on the one 45" wide side. It looks like someone cut them up and never got around to making them into anything else.

Anyway, they are both vintage at least and trying to match vintage cotton batiste has been interesting to say the least. I learned quickly they weren't white. They looked white, but they weren't. They are a natural white rather than bleached into a perfect white. I tried to dye some cotton and, no matter what, I could not match the exact shade of not-white white.

A few days ago, I came across this auction and I just got the fabric today. It matches *perfectly*. I washed the new fabric and it feels a little bit different than the vintage stuff but it looks exactly the same so I seriously doubt anyone will notice. Yay! This means I get to have a new white Regency and a new white Edwardian. :-) ...eventually.

The Just Breathe gown is coming along. The skirt is all hemmed and I'm really just waiting on getting the appliques for the bodice. Once I get those, I can finish putting the trim on the gown. Tomorrow, I'm going to work on the sleeves and get those ready for the bodice. I'll probably also work on my corset like I should be doing.

I stopped by Murder Mall today and got the watch brooch for the Just Breathe gown wound up. The guy at the watch shop said that that was all it needed and he did it for free. Actually, the guys at the watch shop were really nice and it looks like they are a father son team.

After that, I went to Joanns and they have tissue linen in. It's really great stuff. I made my chemise I wore at CC29 out of it and I had to get more. It wears really well and the color looks very period for the SCA period. The color is called papyrus and it's sort of a natural light yellow color. You can't tell what color it is when you are wearing it because the fabric is very sheer.

I also bought some more buckram and almsot two yards of linen that has a pseudo 18th century print to it. It will become Mom's caraco jacket. I just need to find some sage colored linen for a petticoat to go with it.

:-) You and one of my friends who lives about a mile away from it both call it that. It's gotten amazingly more diverse in the past couple of years.
