Marxer had fun at Aunt Sissy's house. He was scared of the fireworks at first but got use to them and wants to come back next year to see them again. Luckily, so do his parents. :-) His little brother was sort of indifferent to the entire thing and was much more interested in the blanket Aunt Sissy brought to sit down on.
I was so happy to get my vintage machine working this morning. I realized I had been using the wrong thread and threaded the machine incorrectly as well...which is why the thread was breaking every five seconds. Once I figured it out, I managed to sew up the dress pretty easily. It was a bit slow (the machine is over 50 years old and one I fixed myself so..) but not nearly as slow as if I attempted the dress by hand.
I bought all the fabric at Joanns. They had a sale on patriotic fabrics and, since I needed a new outfit, I figured why not. My old patriotic outfit was a broomstick skirt with the tiers each in red, white, and blue. On the blue tier, I added 50 star sequins. It was cute but it was clear it was made a few years back and I needed something new.
I love the Vintage Vogue patterns and decided to try one of those. (They were on sale). I did have a bit of a problem fitting the bodice but it ended up fine. My sister in law loved the dress. She said I looked cute. :-D

The dress on me. Not the best picture but it works. I used red "sparkly" buttons and a couple of extra hooks and eyes on the dress.

I need to adjust the bodice a bit more but it looked okay on.
