Animal control just called me back. They took Jasper's description (Yes, I'm naming him after a Twilight character. This way, his nickname will be Jazz and what goes better with "Gin" than "Jazz"?) and informed me that, technically, after 10 days, he's mine. So, um, I might have a cat for...Thanksgiving? Hmm....

The big issue is a very simple one -only my Mom and I aren't allergic to cats in my family. This is why I never considered one before. Yes, I have my own house and everything but even taking the cat over for Thanksgiving will be...interesting. And I have yet to tell Dad. Won't that be a fun conversation! No one is seriously allergic, I think. Still, this means that Jasper might get boarded -a lot. Mom and Dad can take Ginsie but I'm not sure about Jasper. Ugh!

Oh well, we'll deal with it when we need to. This Wednesday. Assuming his owner doesn't come for him.

Congrats on the cat! I do think that if someone lost him, they would put up signs. You've been trying, so if nothing turns up, looks like he's yours!

I won't be home for Thanksgiving, but I do work 10 minutes away, so if you need someone to feed him sometime during the week if you're out of town, I can try and be backup for you.

Thank you so much! Right now, I think I'll just go over to the house on Thanksgiving and just not spend the night. The poor cat should be okay for most of the day by himself in the house.

I did call Dad. He laughed and told me he'd come back over when the cat was dead...which was a heck of a lot better than what I expected!

Depending how long you are gone you don't have to necessarily board him. Cats are more self reliant then dogs. Leave them more food and water and they will just have a story and demand more pets and love when you get back. I only do this for max 3-4 days but mine always greets me at the door meowing away when I get home.

I've never had issues leaving my cats at home for up to 3 days... I bought them an auto feeder and big water dish and they've been just fine.

I'm just a little worried about leaving him for any stretch of time after only having him for a total of 24 hours now. Well, maybe 25 now. He's still a bit fearful of being boxed in (he rammed the gate when I put it up to block the stairs) so I don't want him to freak when neither I or Ginsie are there on Thanksgiving.

A lot of cats just want to be *exactly* where you want them not to be. How long will you be gone for T-giving?

Right now, I'm only going over for the day since I don't want Jasper to be left alone for long. I was planning on going to my parents Wednesday night and then leaving for the beach house Friday morning until late on Sunday but I think it's a bit too long for a new cat to be left alone. Maybe when he's more use to being around here and understands I leave and come I'll leave him for a bit longer than a day. :-)
