So while I was at fest...
Aug. 29th, 2005 10:02 amI should warn everyone that this is a) not about the renaissance and b)all about my beloved puppy and what she did bravely yesterday. I know I've posted her picture before so you can gather what she looks like and that she is only 22 pounds soaking wet. She is very friendly and loves people. I have to be careful when I let her outside because she will run up to our neighbors and say hello. Of course, our neighbors all adore her and just laugh.
Next door, they have a wonderful old golden retriver mix named Kale. He is the sweetest dog and is Ginsie, my pups, best friend. If Kale is out, Ginsie cries until I let her out. Kale will wait by our door until I let Ginsie out or he'll sit and "gaurd" the small passage between the fur bushes that the animals and people use to pass between the two yards.
Well, mom let Ginsie and Shiloh (her dog, a clumber spaniel with Tourettes Syndrome for lack of a better way to describe his personality) out without looking to see if Kale was out. Typically, Shiloh is all bark. He'll get very loud, sound very vicious, but when confronted, he'll run away. Sometimes, I've been able to snap him out of it and we all know to simply ask him "Shiloh, where's you ball?" if he starts growling. He's near-sighted, we think, and stupid.
Well, Shiloh went running towards Kale. He has his e-collar on (as shown in the picture of me for the 9/11 garb) because he keeps biting a hot spot on his back. Thank Goodness he does have it on because, according to mom, he tried to bite Kale.
Poor Kale didn't know what to do. Kale is a good deal bigger than Shiloh but he's a sweetheart. Shiloh was trying to fight him when Ginsie came running to the rescue. Yes, my little Cavalier/Cocker Spaniel Mix went to save the day.
According to Mom, Ginsie used her head to push Kale out of the way and then yelled at Shiloh before biting him to get him back. Shiloh knows very well that a)Ginsie is Queen and b) Ginsie is far better at fighting than he is. (They had it out once or twice. After the second time Ginsie grabbed his ear to keep him in his place, Shiloh simply sat there and looked at us for help. And yes, he deserved getting his ear bit. We don't bother to stop Ginsie if Shiloh deserves it.) This gave Mom enough time to run over and yank Shiloh back over to our house and throw him inside.
So Ginsie saved Kale and Shiloh is in a great deal of trouble. You can tell he knows he's in trouble but I doubt he knows what he did wrong. Mom was just amazed that Ginsie would protect another dog like that. At least we know she knows very well what the right thing to do is.
