Mid sewing update

First: Does anyone know Japanese? http://www.ebay.com/itm/110808508040 I'm trying to figure out what it says on the shoes I just bought. :-) I *thought* it might be the shoe size (the first characters look vaguely like "53" but no).

Second: Rather than the sack back gown, I'm working on a Spanish surcote. I know. I should be working on the 18th C, not the 16th but the surcote needs to be in the mail tomorrow by noon.

It's out of a lovely gold damask, lined in black velvet, with gold "embroidered" black velvet hanging sleeves. It should look awesome, hopefully!

I asked and she confirmed - it's really Chinese. :-) I thought that was a bit too many lines for Japanese characters. However, since I don't know either language, I was willing to give the seller the chance.

oh well in that case if you like I could print a picture and ask Fei who I worked with at JoAnn's if she can tell me what it means. She was attempting to her great amusement to teach me Chinese when I worked there, I was apparently horrible at it.

If the listed length (9") is correct, they're about a size 5. Very narrow, too. Japanese size 22.5 or 23.

Turns out they are Chinese. I'm thinking European export at this point.
