A very nerve wracking day
Feb. 19th, 2012 08:17 pmI went back to Ikea to return the Ivar system I got. Even the guy doing the returns took a look at it, took a look at me, and said "I get why you returned it". It was only a corner shelving unit, a tall unit, and a small (49") one and the entire thing - unfinished wood from Ikea- was $235. I wasn't sure how much it really was only because I bought so much the other day.
Anyway, I went up to check on other shelving units and I saw the expedit units - it's essentially a bunch of cube shelving but wide enough to fold fabric in. I saw the biggest unit - 6'x6'- and loved it but I still wasn't sure until I saw the TV unit version of it...for half the price. Same size, just the middle cubes are taken out for a TV. I plan on putting a curtain rod up inside so I can hang stuff from it there. I also got a similar but smaller shelving unit for all the scraps and odds and ends to be put behind the sewing desk.
Well, I went down to where the shelving unit should be in the warehouse part only to see they were out. The guy informed me that the Woodbridge Ikea had 42 instock units so down to the Woodbridge Ikea I go!
I stopped on the way home and Ginsie really wanted to go on a car ride. Although it would be a bit, it wouldn't be horribly long and I knew exactly what I wanted so...she came.
I was in and out of the Woodbridge Ikea in 10 minutes. It took another 15 to get the Ikea guys to help me load up the truck. (There were a good amount of people that needed help.) Ginsie and I just waited - she knew better than to get out through the tailgate which I had open, but she saw me. Once the guys loaded the boxes into the truck, I left. Unfortunately, here's were disaster strikes.
I was on the phone with Mom - no big deal- and simply turned to leave Ikea and out on to the main road when the boxes slid and hit me in the head. I yelled and told Mom I'd have to call her back. I also jumped the curb (My truck can take it) so I was out of everyone's way while I went around re-situating the boxes. I had to open the side door to do this and the tailgate. Once everything was fine -I still held the boxes with my hand every time I made the slightest turn- I got back on the road. It was about two turns when I realized Ginsie was not in the car.
Panic!
I pulled around into a parking lot and was going to try and think of a) how to get back to Ikea and b)really make sure she wasn't just somehow hiding in the car and freaking me out (because she has done that before). The second I pulled in, a very nice lady and her daughter called to tell me they had my pup.
Still, freaking but not nearly as much, I managed to get back to Ikea -praying the entire time- and found the very nice lady and her daughter who was holding Miss Ginsie. The first thing I did? Hugged the living daylights out of the pup and smother her with kisses. :-D
I made her sit up front on the way home because she was not about to be out of my sight. According to the lady who found Ginsie, my poor pup was shaking the entire time until she saw me. Luckily, Ginsie won't let me out of her sight now either. I'm just so thankful she didn't get run over and that nice people found her. From now on, that pup is not allowed in the back seat and I'm so double checking the boxes in the car before I leave.
I did eventually call Mom back. She was freaking out so bad that she threw her back out. :-( She knew something had happened but she didn't know what. I did tell her that I'd call back later and I texted her that I was okay but that didn't help. Hopefully, she'll be okay tomorrow.
