Worked on a sewing project!
Sep. 23rd, 2012 12:25 amToday I did a lot, really. I went over to my parents' house for Mom's B-day this morning. I thought I was a Bad Child (tm) for cutting up a paper bag rather than using real wrapping paper. However, since I drew on it (with crayon!) and my brother was even far worse (he just handed the amazon box over that, oh, by the way, arrived while I was there), I was okay.
I got Mom the American Duchess Astoria shoes in black a few months ago when American Duchess had some irregulars on sale. Mom had mentioned that she liked those in particular and I knew that, at least with that style, she could wear them to work or to other functions and not just as historical wear. She LOVES the shoes. Thank goodness they fit! (Pictures later)
I also made her (and the rest of the family) breakfast. I made my pancakes; which I'm told were fine but the boys of the family prefer Bisquick. I was sort of amazed at how well the pancakes did come out though. It was normal flour, my version of baking powder (corn free), almond milk, olive oil, and sugar. It did taste different than regular pancakes but, as everyone told me, they weren't bad either. Mom liked them. I also made fried apples.
After that, I went antique shopping with
quincy134,
padawansguide, and
art2love. A lot of the antiques were priced interestingly but there were a lot of lovely things. Upstairs at the mall, there was a very awesome store that I will definitely look forward to going to in the future. It's thrift store were everything really is $5. The lady that runs it told us we could get five items for $20 today and then followed up with explaining that the accessories were buy one get one free. Win! I ended up with a lovely pumpkin colored sweater that I already adore and a really cute black sweater with a collar of doom!
I also bought an owl at another store. His name is Tonic. He lives on the TV for now so that neither Gin nor Jazz will mess with him. And yes, he his white. The store I bought him from had a ton of really cute holiday themed items that I really liked. I might go back and buy the eyeball ornaments....
After shopping, I came home and crashed for a bit. I then worked on drafting a new kirtle pattern. We'll see how this one works out. I'm trying to go for an open front 1500's/1510's Scottish look. I need to cut it out but I'm debating too much on what type of lining to use...
