I have the wool to make this and I already have a green apron so... I need some sort of red ribbon. :-) It looks like she has some sort of blackwork embroidery around her bodice but I'm going to hold off on that because I know there is no way I can do that in a couple of weeks properly. I do need to make the white linen partlet as well.

Not having seen a larger image of the portrait, I would guess that the black strips might just be strips of leather or black fabric.

Campi, Fruit Seller. It's clearly not black fabric or leather (I don't think I've ever seen leather trim used on a non leather garment in the 16th C) if you look at the larger version. This is a slightly larger detail (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/Vincenzo_Campi_-_The_Fruit_Seller_detail.jpg) where you can see the black edging is "wavy" as it would be with either blackwork or a corded trim.

Here's a closeup of the bodice - I've interpreted it as an applied band with picot or rough edging, or an applied band stitched on with intentionally visible stitches.

I did a dress inspired by this a few years ago - it's a fun style!
