According to the museum, these shoes once belong to Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton - the first American born saint to be canonized. I have no idea why they have an "L" on them (maybe they belonged to someone else later or before?) but they look to be from the 1790's. (St. E. Seton was born in 1774, so very probable that she wore these or something like them) I have a few more pictures up on ipernity if anyone wants to see some of the details. They do have a stacked heel.
