Here's how one of the painted buttons came out.  It's not the best but it's pretty decent.  

I've cut out the dress, cut out the lining, gathered up all the materials I'll need, and will sew it this afternoon, hopefully.  This skirt will be fully lined so I cut out some brown linen and ice blue linen in the stash for the skirt lining.  I didn't have quite enough of the brown linen but piecing the inside of the skirt lining is very period.  The brown linen will be along the top and the ice blue will be around the hem.
