Yes, every so often, i actually do something not medieval or renaissance or even fantasy related in sewing. Mom's birthday is Sept 22. I asked her what she wanted and she said she wanted an apron. She doesn't want me to spend any money; just use the tons of fabric I have lying around. so....I actually took her at her word.

The apron finished. I had a ton of fall and winter related fabrics left over from a project a couple of years ago. Back in 2003, I decided to make quilted wreathes for people as presents. They were a big hit but I had tons of fabric left over and really don't do much quilting. The wreathes were only my second quilting project...ever. The apron is my third.

This is a close up of the bib. I hadn't finished the pinafore yet (I was piecing it during the photo and trying to figure out which colors would look right wear).

Center of the pinafore. I love the designs on this one piece of fabric I had and cut it out to make appliqués. This appliqué made it to the final piecing.

So, what does everyone think? Does it look okay? I'm serious when I say this is only the third time I've done anything resembling quilting in my life. Do you think she'll like it? Does anyone else like it? ect....

I think it's really pretty -- my own mom would probably like something like that, if she wore aprons.

I'd recommend pressing the hell out of it and topstitching all the edges, though, especially on the ties. I find if you don't topstitch all the edges, then the lining inevitably rolls out and the ties go all wonky when it gets tossed in the wash. And what's the point of an apron you have to iron?

Not only do I like it, you could make serious money selling these in an eBay store. It's GORGEOUS!

I think it's beautiful. Definitely something you could only get at a high price at a craft fair. Your mother will love it.

I really hope so. Not that she's picky but I would like her to have something for her birthday that she will use and like to use at that!
