A word on Flickr
Jun. 4th, 2008 06:08 pmI know many of us (including myself) use the Flickr photo service. So far, for me, it's been great. I haven't had any problems and I can access it at my old office without problem. I just received this message from the lady that goes by the user name anneboleynsite. I can't tell you how invaluable some of her photos and screenshots have been to me. I really love just looking over her photos to get ideas and to be able to see some of the costuming aspects from some of my favorite period movies. Here is the content of the message:
Dear Contact
I'm absolutely furious because Flickr has deleted two of my
costume albums (at http://www.flickr.com/photos/romanyway)
- containing photos personally taken by me - and also
deleted the account - without any prior notice to me.
To the very many of you who have marked photos contained in
those album as favourites, marked me as a contact,
commentated on the pictures or simply enjoyed looking at
them I apologise and wish you would all complain to Flickr
(as I have done).
I spent many hours online uploading and describing these
images as an educational and artistic resource, especially
aimed at young people, it makes me mad to think that Flickr
has deleted lovely images of Tudor costuming, yet still
hosts so many sick images! I thought this would be safe
storage for my photos and images here at Flickr, and the
originals were deleted from my computer. So be warned - if
you think your pictures are safe here on Flickr they are
most definitely NOT, if Flickr decides to delete them you
will NOT be informed prior to their deletion.
Flickr 'loves you', ha! I will probably be moving my
pictures to Google's Picasa web albums in the near future.
I can't believe that I trusted Flickr with my pictures,
pictures which were very much enjoyed and which many people
found extremely interesting and a useful, educational,
resource. Pictures were mentioned or copied onto personal
websites (with links leading back to Flickr, and thereby
giving them free advertising this). Many pictures were
marked as favourites and visitors to my album left many
friendly comments and thanks for the lovely pictures - all
now deleted....
This makes me so mad! I will be emailing Flickr and hope others will too. I'm a member of flickr pro but will move if they don't remedy this situation quickly.
