::screams:: I originally posted this over here, edited for everyone over here but the stupid LJ deleted it! UGH!!!!

So, here's what I posted on a message board about the dress that I plan on making. Remember, most of these people don't know about historical fashions (unlike over here) so I tailored it to them.

First, the news article in question can be found here:

...the designs, for the most part, are made of fail. There is one sketch that I think is the aliens at the beginning of the Fifth Element and not a dress. No, really. It's just scary. So, I decided I could at least attempt to do something closer....

Right now, I have um...the silk, some of the lace (I'm getting more), and a pattern idea. I'm basing it off the following quotes:

It was my Anne of Green Gables vision all over again.
"It's perfect, of course. Exactly right. You're a genius."
She grinned. "I know"
"Nineteen-eighteen?" I guessed.
"More or less," she said nodding. "Some of it is my design, the train, the veil..." she touched the white satin as she spoke. "The lace is vintage. Do you like it?" Eclipse pg 614

I was only vaguely aware of Alice and the slip and slide of satin over my skin. BD pg 22

"Sure," Alice said easily. "You can start the braiding. I want it intricate. The veil goes here, underneath." BD pg 43

I concentrated on my breathing, counting each movement of my lungs, and stared at the patterns that the bathroom light made on the shiny fabric of my skirt. BD pg 44

"...(sic) Where did you find this dress? It's gorgeous! So graceful, so elegant. Bella, you look like you just stepped out of an Austen movie." BD pg 44-45

(sic) The narrow sheeth of the shimmering white dress flared out subtly at the train almost like an inverted calla lily... BD pg 57

So I'm taking this to mean that, although there is some vintage lace, there isn't a ton of it (like the skirt is all antique lace). Bella keeps describing the skirt as made of white satin. Based on the calla lily reference, I'm guessing that Meyers actually did her homework (woohoo!) and realized the dresses of the teens didn't have rounded trains but pointed or squared off ones. Also, the look of a "wrap dress" was very popular which would go along with the calla lily idea.

Since Renee seems to think she looks like she stepped out of a Jane Austen movie, I'm guessing the dress also has some earlier elements. Like 1912-1914 earlier. Think Titanic and you'll get an idea (although I despise that movie for many reasons that boil down is you are going to claim you are being historically accurate, DO IT!) So I'm making a raised bust line.

The veils of the teens and 20's were not something most people would want to wear today. It looks like a fitted bed cap out of sheer material with a train. Not exactly pretty in our modern eyes. So, given that Alice said she designed it and that the veil goes "underneath" the hair, I'm guessing she went with a more modern style veil or maybe a pre-teens (Edwardian!) styled veil. I'm not sure what I'll do with that yet.

Dear lord. One begins to wonder how they "reached out to some of our favorite designers to see how they envision her gown". Did they say "hey, wanna design a vampire wedding dress?"

I mean, seriously. PINK??

Exactly! Most of them, I was like "Uh...1918 it ain't" There was one that I rather liked that looked about very early 1900's but I figure I'll just design it myself. I should have all the pieces in two more days! Woohoo!

I kind of liked the mermaid tail style (like.. the second one in or so?) it fit the "cala lily" theme.
