More Ebay and a question

A lovely silk Regency gown.

After seeing the color of the gown above, I *think* the taffeta I already have will be okay but...

I have what I can only describe as dark pumpkin orange silk taffeta. I got it during the last Fabric.com sale. I have enough to make, I think, a robe in the style of the late 1790's, early 1800's. (A la, V & A, Patterns Of Fashion, pages 44-45) Is this color okay, though, for that time period? I've seen a lot of pinks, yellows, blues, and some greens but I have yet to see much in the orange color range. The dress above really is the first and it looks more brown to my eyes.

I uploaded all my Regency stuff for you, there's some oranges in there. Nothing too dark though, but there are enough dark reds to make me think dark orange wouldn't be out of place.

Squee! Thank you! I favorited a couple. It looks like orange was used more as a lining or accessory color. What I might do is just save the orange taffeta for what I original planned for it and use some of the other silks I have around. But, thank you, that was immensely helpful.

There is a bright red silk dress in The Art of Dress (I think also another book?). So maybe orange isn't so crazy. I think you're fine.

Thank you! I look through my books and see what I find.

Online, I've found red. I even found black. Pink, Green, Yellow, and Blue are all pretty common. I've seen purple before so I know that's out there, but orange? Maybe they just figured no one looked good in it? I'm not sure. But, after waffling back and forth yesterday, I think I'm going with the orange since it's for a pumpkin themed tea. :-)

Only orange Regency dress that comes to mind is this:

It's more of a yellow dress with brownish stripes, I admit that, but the overall look is orange (for whatever that is worth). Looking forward to follow the progress of this project!

Oh! Great find! Thank you. This will help. Not that I really think anyone will question me a lot anyway. The dress is for a tea party and the theme is pumpkin. :-)
